Five-Year Strategic Plan

The School of Nursing engaged Impact Plus to co-create its School-level Strategic Plan.

The ongoing impacts of the pandemic, increasing pressures on healthcare researchers and practitioners, and the fast-changing health and economic landscape called for a clear direction forward.

The desired outcome was a plan that:

  • Integrates and enhances its academic, research, and people strengths;

  • Builds on its partnerships and contributions to communities;

  • Positions the School of Nursing
    to thrive over the next 5 years.

Facilitating an engaging, laughter-filled two-day strategy co-creation session

Impact Plus assessed the School of Nursing's operating environment. We conducted discovery interviews with external partners and a co-creation survey to learn what students, staff, and faculty think as most pressing challenges to address for the future.

We identified realistic scenarios and external trends impacting the healthcare sector and possible priorities to guide how the School might respond and thrive amidst the challenges. We coached the leader to identify key messages, team behaviours, and desired results to inspire collaboration and set the team up for success.

The report on what we heard from stakeholders helped guide the two-day in-person strategy co-creation session in Victoria to develop the School's strategy.

A practical strategy, a more connected team, and vibrant hybrid workplace

Participants described the session as energizing, collaborative, and fun-filled. What made the sessions impactful was kicking off with an interactive persona mapping of the needs of students, staff, and faculty to identify opportunities to reduce working in silos and work better together.

Most importantly, the team identified that taking care of themselves as healthcare researchers and practitioners was needed to effectively care for the communities they support.

During the co-creation session, the team developed concrete early wins for improving its physical work environment, digital systems, and prioritizing workplace wellness.

The School’s vision, mission, values, goals, and success measures reflected a realistic picture of the team's influence within the broader healthcare system.

The process was completed within 2 months with no delays.
